• suprised faceGood lord! Two days after I accused local developers of not taking advantage of the imminent invasion of wrinklies, the Orlando Business Journal Reports that at least one developer is creating a place for your mom and dad.

Avalon park is working with Florida Hospital to create a “health village” in the east Orlando community for active seniors. And with the hospital’s input, the retirees will have access to nearby medical facilities they can be shipped to as they pass their sell-by dates.

The unit will house 175 senior apartments right across the street from the new twelve million dollar, forty-five thousand square-foot medical plaza. Both projects are expected to break ground this summer.

What’s nice about this project is that it’s increasing service levels from old-school retirement homes and offering more choice. Residents can choose from traditional meals and housekeeping services, or they may be active enough to self cater and fore-go any monitoring. And it will help keep family’s closer together because it’s part of a larger “regular” building project.

“We can strengthen the social fabric by offering a place the whole family can live,” says developer Kahli.

Mom, Dad… come on down! The water’s great!
